Press Release

The Government of Saint Lucia continues to send relief supplies to St Vincent and the Grenadines and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) oversaw the shipping of relief supplies this morning (Friday April 16th) on a barge en route to the island, which is current facing the impact on the eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano.

Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet was on hand at the wharf where the barge was being loaded with supplies including bottled water and non-perishable items, donated by the general public, Blue Waters, Windward and Leeward Brewery, the St Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA).

“Our hearts continue to go out to the Government and People of St Vincent and the Grenadines and also to Barbados, as they have also been impacted by volcanic ash. It has been a very difficult time and so I am very proud as I have said many times of how Saint Lucians have opened up their hearts to support our fellow Caribbean citizens. Today is really still the beginning of the process and we thank all the individuals and
the corporations who have made donations for this to be possible.”

The Prime Minister also commended NEMO and the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps for their efforts and the managements of the logistics. Saint Lucia is also sending supplies today via a Venezuelan vessel which will carry non-perishable items and several water tanks. The Government of Saint Lucia has also sent 400 cots to be used at shelters in St Vincent and the Grenadines. For more information: http://nemo.gov.lc/.
